Complementary & Alternative Treatments

It’s How You Use It: Warning

A complementary treatment may be considered alternative if it’s used instead of medical treatment. Using CAM therapies as a substitute for conventional medicine in cancer treatment can be a risky approach. Legitimate healthcare providers do not recommend it.

While conventional therapy may serve as the core of your cancer treatment, you may benefit from supplementing your primary treatments with complementary care, which may range from acupuncture to nutritional therapy to mind-body medicine. Speak to your doctor if you’re interested in seeing whether you might benefit from any complementary treatments. Learn about the whole spectrum of healing therapies in Your Guide to Cancer Care.
