glioblastoma multiforme

I am 19 years old and my father has been living with glioblastoma Multiforme  for a year and a half now. I was just wondering if this means the end is very near since he has lived much longer than prognosis' say. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what i can expect with the end and how long is very long to live with this type of brain cancer?

HI there,

Well i just want to congratulate your Dad for not becoming a "statistic" you will find a lot of people on this site who have survived past the prognosis time... and a few who dont. BUT

There is a really good hospice website that will inform you about what happens at the "end" I will post this on another message when i find it for you.

If your dad is talking, and walking eating etc... i doubt the end is near. But if it does come it will come quickly.

How is your Dad doing now? what are his symptoms presently? and what meds is he on if any?

Once again well done to your dad for being so strong.

how wonderful for your dad and your family that he has been so strong and responded to treatments so well.  what treatment is he currently on?

the website www.brainhospice.com is excellent in helping with the 'end of life.'  but if your dad is eating, walking, taking care of himself well on his own (or for the most part on his own) then i would enjoy the time.  things do happen fast if the tumor begins to grow or change, but in the meantime ENJOY what is now...

well he had tried all the medications that were out there and none really worked so he has stopped taking meds for the tumor and is now just on pain killers and anti-anxiety medication.

He is able to eat and walk on his own, but he has very slurred speech and its hard to understand what he is saying. Also, he is constantly tired and has little energy to do anything. The only thing he can truly do on his own is eat, shower, use the bathroom, but everything else he needs our help for.

Did your Dad have surgery? then radio and chemotherapy?

How long ago did the meds stop?

Did he want to stop treatments himself.

Unfortunately unless your dads MRI's were clear for years the chance of it coming back and taking over are quite high.

Take us through it step by step and we can help you out with more info.
