Mucus and Phlegm over production

I have a 9 month old baby, he caught pneumonia and a strain of virus call Adeno. Adeno, they say, is not cureable, but I am not sure. The problem is that he is producing too much mucus, which is trying to attack the virus. We've been told the Adeno virus is gone but that there are remnants of the pneumonia. and subsequently continues to cause the overproduction of mucus. we have been in the hospital for close to three month and I don't know what to believe anymore. We do suction 3 - 5 times a day; it drives me crazy. I feel like I am torturing my baby. We have to wrap him in a sheet and bang firmly on his chect and back to looden the mucus and then with the suction machine we try to extract the mucus by sending a tube down his nose and also mouth (throat). It's pitiful.

Is anyone else having this problem. I wish I could find out how to stop the mucus production. It's terrible to hear him wheezing and crackling when he breathes. Is there any good news out there before i have an emotional breakdown?

You need to find advice about pneumonia.  This is a cancer site, so will be no use to you.  We do have problems with mucus, but they are totally unrelated to those of your little one.

Best of luck to you and your baby.

Susan
