One chemo session made my dads immune system crash and now he can't get rid of his infections!

My dad was diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer that mestasized to his liver at the end of June 2018. He had no symptoms besides some mild acid reflux so it wasn't discovered until it was already stage four. He is only 53 and besides that was very healthy and strong. He did his first chemo session of folfox and three days after got extremely sick with vomiting and stomach pain. We took him to the ER and he ended up having an abdominal infection that turned into sepsis. He survived the sepsis but his abdominal infection still hasn't gone away and he developed a lung infection and then yeast infection (both of which are gone now). The doctors said that the reason why he can't fight off infections is cause the sepsis has caused kidney failure and the liver mestases. But he was a million times better before ge chemo and it was only after he did the chemo that his immune system completely crashed. What can we do so that he can fight off the infections so he can be strong enough to continue cancer treatment? We have finally transferred him to another much more reknown hospital yesterday and are hoping they can offer something besides palliative care. Thank you (btw it's adenocarcinoma)

I am so sorry you and your family have to go through this.  Chemo can cause white blood cells that fight infections to crash.  Were they checking his cbc before doing chemo?  Neulasta is a medication that causes the white blood cells to go back up.  With my daughter, they would check her blood count before doing chemo and if they were even borderline, they would give her Neulasta to bump it back up after treatment.  The stomach and intestines are a big part of our immune system.  Unfortunately, stomach cancer itself drives down the immune system and then chemo over that.  I hope he is able to get over this hurdle quickly.

Now that he is at another facility maybe they can offer more options.  Things i would ask about would be Vitamin C infusions, steroids to boost him up, and immunotherapy instead of or with chemo.

So it turns out that his abdominal infection hasn't gone away because his stomach lining isn't working so bad bacteria is floating around in his abdomen which is then getting infected. Does anyone know how to fix this?

No, I sorry, I don't.  Does he have an obstruction that is also keeping it from draining?  Corner a doctor and ask what are going to do about this.
