Scheduled for LEEP next week. . . I have questions

Hi all,

After reading several threads here about LEEP procedures and diagnoses of different CIN, I am a bit confused. Here's my story;

A few weeks ago I went in to get an annual, all was well. Until this week, I get a call from the nurse who lets me know results from my pap smear came back abnormal with "highly suspicious" cells on my cervix. There was no mention of CIN levels or cancer but they did immediately suggest I schedule a LEEP procedure with a local OBGYN, as well as a biopsy. They did not give me any further information, other than I shouldn't worry and I would be in good hands; which only made me more nervous.

So I guess my question is, without an actual diagnosis of CIN or any other infection or diseases, is a LEEP necessary? There was no biopsy or anything done prior to my pap, it jumped from a report of an abnormal pap to needing a LEEP/biopsy. Do the Drs know something and just aren't telling? Obviously something has them concerned.

I guess I'm not so much worried about the LEEP itself as I am concerned about THE REASON they recommended the procedure in the first place.

A little medical history; I was diagnosed with HPV about 8 years ago after my first child was born, but it went away before becoming pregnant with my 2nd child in 2014. I'm a healthy 27 year old female. Any advice or information pertaining to my situation will be helpful.
