esophageal dilation following esophagectomy ?

Just underwent endoscopic dilation 2 days ago for a stricture that's developed (first need for dilation since the esophagectomy 3.5 years ago).   Swallowing had become painful and eating solids more difficult in recent weeks.  Anyway, the stricture was dilated 2 days ago, but don't yet feel any relief in the top of the throat area.  How long does it take following an esophageal dilation to get relief ? should it be immediate ? or does it take time ?  Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences with post-esophagectomy dilations.

My husband has had nine dilations since his esophagectomy last May. He reports that he can feel an immediate difference afterwards and swallowing is greatly improved even with some occasional soreness which may last a day or two after the procedure. I would tell your doctor what you are experiencing. There are different kinds of dilation they can do or they may have just missed a spot?

I have had at least 30 dilations since I have had my stomach reconstruction because of an esophagectomy. I did not have cancer, I had a 2.5 cm tumor, it was benign. I don’t know why the doctor decided to take out my esophagus, but he did. I have been suffering ever since which is now 6 years. I also have a constricted area and I have had all these balloon dilations. I try to be strong and thank God everyday because I know that there are other people who are suffering more than me. But, how much can one person take??? I can’t eat. Eat minimally and then have to vomit because it just doesn’t go down. I am on 4 different antacids which of course is way too much but I need it to control the GERD. I sleep sitting up, I haven’t slept in a bed in over 6 years. I would appreciate it if someone can help me with this, maybe someone who understands what I am going through. Thank you
