I was diagnoised with stage 4 colon cancer April 2018. I have several side effects from my chemo treatments, runny eyes and runny nose, and neurophy of my hands and feet. The one thing I am having most problem is dealing with are mouth sores. My doctor has prescribed the Miracle Mouth it only helps for a short time. Any suggestions?

Hazeth,

I was receiving radiation for Head and Neck cancer years ago. I used the Baking Soda and Salt solution of 1 Teaspoon of each in 1 Quart of room temperature water mixed up. I would rinse and gargle with this solution as often as needed. When the discomfort increased, I increased the Baking Soda and Salt to 1 Tablespoon of each. It helped for short periods of time similiar to the "Magic Mouthwash".

In the later weeks of treatments, I was given a pain med called "Neurontin" which I was told for nerve pain. It helped and after treatments were over, I weaned off of it but still used the solution for a spell.

Ask your doctor for some pain medicines to get thru the discomfort. Once the sores stop, you can stop the pain meds as well.

My husband used Viscous Lidocaine before eating. Also lasts a short time but enough for him to have dinner. You’ll need a Rx. It’s almost tasteless clear liquid. Kind of thick and we used a long Qtip to apply. It’s a tough situation.......try as many suggestions as you can stand. This worked for my sweetheart. Janey

I have been using Colgate Peroxyl Mouth sore rinse. It helps me and I am 10 years out after colo/rectal chemo/radiation, surgery which took retume plus some colon. 18 inchs to be exact. I have gone thru it all and still running to the bathroom. If you can eat peanut butter, that will slow your colon down. I am so many different drugs now that dry out my body, including my colon. I know certain foods will move thru your colon faster and the spicey foods burn my anus so bad. I use  A & D and Calmoseptine to help cool down the burn. Walgreens carries Calmoseptine. I hope this helps.
