Chest Pain

In August 2004 I had a transhiatal esophagectomy, following chemo and radiation. In January, Feb and again in March, I have had severe chest pain, behind the sternum area, where my "new" esophagus is. I have had catscans, barium swallows, bone scans, x-rays, heart tests, etc to try to find out what is causing the pain, which usually has lasted for 3-4 days, then gone away. In a telephone discussion with the surgeon's office (he is not in the location where I am), he thought this was probably some type of irritated esophagus causing the pain. In the two times the pain was most severe, I had taken a long drive before the first, and sat at my computer filling out disability forms all day and then a relatively long drive the next day before the second incident. I would like to know if anyone has had this type of problem, and what might be the cause. I am beginning to think it must be a muscle type strain of some sort, but not sure. And the doctors don't know. Thanks!
