Kidney cancer with mets to lymph nodes and lungs. My question is, is there anyone out there who is going to be or already in a new clinical trial with a phase II drug by Pfizer, called SU11284? I am going to begin next week provided my latest round of tests okay me for that study. I was recently stopped in another trial with Avastin /Tarceva which helped for 7 months, now I have a new tumor/lesion in the chest wall. I work and only have tiredness and some stomach trouble, but otherwise, continue to live life as best I can. I am 49 years old and have been a cancer survivor since May 2003. Thank you

Sheree, Hope you are still feeling well. I am writing because you have a very similar diagnosis as mine. I had my kidney removed a year and a half ago. At my last CT scan about 2 months ago, the Dr. said that he saw several lesions in both lungs, but they are still small. Would you mind letting me know what your treatment was as soon as you were diagnosed with the lung lesions? I am still waiting for another CT scan in June. Thank you so much. I appreciate any information you could give me. Janet

Hi Janet: I first showed a nodule in the right infrahilar region of the chest, the ones in the lungs were still small. They have to be of measurable amounts before they will begin treatment. I first had a PET scan after the Ct scan last July @2004, then from there, it definitely showed malignancy in that scan and I was immediately referred to the Beth Israel Deaconness Medical Center. They are connected with the Dana Farber Institute and are doing remarkable research (Boston, MA) for cancer there. So they said I was a prime candidate for a new study with Avastin influsion and double blinded study with Tarceva. I did actually get the real drug Tarceva in the study cause I broke out all over the that is what it's side effect is. The Avastin is an antiangiogenisis medicine which works by blocking the red blood cell's ability to feed the tumor, basically. My lesion in the chest was 13mm, or close enough to start. This worked for 7 months, and then I grew new lesion, 2.2 cm, chest wall somewhere. I have lots of others here and there but not largely measurable. I have on on the left adrenal gland, where my diseased kidney was, a couple places on the pancreas, where I had had mets at the time of surgery, the tail of pancreas had a tumor which they removed also. I am not doing as well as I had hoped with this new trial of SUGen, I got sick while on vacation, lots of diaarhea, back pain, belly pain, hip pain, joint pain, fever. They evaluated me today trying to decide what is doing it. I had to stop the drug two days ago after only being on it for 12 days. I am bummed about it, b ut they have to wait and see more blood work next week. Are you near a cancer treatment center. There are a lot of great ones you can find online. If you wish and we can be of support and info for each other okay? Sheree

Does Cesium Chloride (alkaline) therapy help (in addition to interferon / interleuken)? Have you heard that some one benefited?

Kidney Cancer in The Lung and Lymph Node

Hello, My name is Debra and my mom had her left kidney removed and now just four short months later the cancer is back. There is a small 7mm mass on her right lung which was removed two days ago. The only problem is that there is also a one inch mass on her lymph node in the center of her chest near her aorta that is at this point inoperable. We are going down to Solan in New York city on Wednesday for a second opinion. Does anyone out there have any suggestions on what things I should ask, because so far they have not put her on any kind of treatment. Her autitude and her will is amazing. She looks great and feels better than she has in a long time...If there is anyone that can give us a glimer of hope, a personal story or your prayers I will be grateful....Thank You and God Bless Debra
