Oligodendroglioma and Tarceva

My wife had a 2nd craniotomy in April 2004. It was a grade 3/4 Oligodendroglioma. She went through radiation and Temodar at the same time. She became neutropenic and caught a bacterial infection in the blood and spent 2 weeks in the hospital. They tried Temodar again when she got out but her blood counts kept dropping. Next came CAMPTOSAR in which she had a port put in to receive treatment. Her blood counts still dropped not allowing her to receive full treatments. February 2005 doctors at Henry Ford tell us the tumor has progressed and since her bone marrow can't handle these types of chemo, they want to try Tarceva, a molecular attacking drug. Her first check-up in June of 2005 doctors tell us her tumor has shrunk. They continue treatment. August 2005 the tumor is stable(no change). October 18, 2005 doctors tell us the tumor is smaller than it was in August. So far so good for a drug developed for Lung Cancer. She also has been taking Cantron (non-FDA antioxidant) since her surgery, her personal choice. In the last 4-5 months she also has been taking Shark Liver Oil.

my husband is also taking tarceva too. He has a GBM. It has been almost 3+ months since he started tarceva. He is getting a PET on friday to see if the enhancement from the MRS is tumor growth and necrosis. Gina

Hi there, I see it is sometime since you left your msg but I'm hoping you still check this website! I hope your wife is doing well now. My 17yr old brother was recently diagnosed with a grade 3 Oligodendroglioma and we are looking into Tarceva as an option for him. I would love to know any more thoughts you have on this drug. Many thanks and best wishes
