Hello Artis, My daughter in law, (46 years old) Cindy has Kidney cancer. By the time they found it the tumor was 11 centimeters (as large as the kidney). They took it out, meanwhile I visited every kidney cancer site and they weren't very positive. The Kidney cancer had metastasized to her lungs. 5 tumors in the two lungs. However, we did get her into a clinical study in Seattle at the Hutchinson Cancer center. 8 weeks of driving 5 hours for one shot and at the end not only was the cancer still there but they said she had it in her bones and brain. We were devastated but kept praying and searching. They did radiation on the brain and her doctor put her in a program of Interleukin 2. She did two treatments (rough but she hung in there) and 2 weeks ago they announce that all the tumors are gone in her lungs. One hung in there longer than the rest. The radiation worked on the brain cancer and at this time she is cancer free. She has a young son and college age daughter, my son is a truck driver and has to be gone a lot. She is still weak but has her good/bad days. So I say to you, hang in there; keep fighting, keep asking questions and demanding the best treatments available. We don't know what the future will hold for her but we are blessed to have additional time with her. We will pray for you and your family. God Bless Nancy

Hi Nancy.

Would you mind telling me whether it was whole brain radiation or SRS (a more targeted form of radiation therapy).

My father is in a similar position - he had a kidney cut out 6 years ago, then growths returned last September in the pancreas and lung. He was going to go on interferon, but then he got brain mets so had whole brain radiation. next we were going to see about the SRS, but he just had to go in for a blood transfusion so it may have spread to the liver - we'll find out soon.

Thanks

 Simon

Thank you Nancy.  A friend of mine forwarded this message after hearing about my husband.  Briefly, he is 48, non-sympomatic stage IV renal cancer.  His only compaint was pain in his left shoulder, but we thought it was work related.  As it intensified, our doctor ordered a series of scans.  On March 12, he was officially diagosed and by march 16, he was in surgery having his C-4 removed.  Still, he feels fine and has no symptoms.  He started radiation on his neck (C-4 area) every day for 16 treatments and our maedical oncologist says he will likely begin Nexavar (a new drug that works very well on renal/kidney cancer) at the end of that treatment.  Then, if all goes well, our urologist will remove the tumor (19 centimeters!!) and probably the kidney.  Still, that is months away.  I guess I just wanted to hear a similar story with hope surrounding it and yours did just that.  Thanks so much and if you have any advise, please let me know!

Hello,

My mother-in-law was just told 2 days ago that she has tumors in her kidney, lung and brain. She had biopsies of herright lung done yesterday and we are still awaiting her results, they told us 72 hours. I was hoping someone could help point us in the right direction. We have begun researching but everything points to a poor prognosis and for us this is unacceptable. I was reading about Cindy's story and Megan's story and saw hope. If anyone has any insight we would be very appreciative!! She has shown no symptoms until 6 days ago when her right side went flaccid, which is improving with the help of steroid therapy. Her blood work has remained uneffected thus far according to the physicians.
