My hubby is in stage 3  lung cancer that has spread to his lymth nodes. .

He has had 3 rounds of chemo was suppose to  start another one today..

But doctor cancelled it till june 6th due to he was throwing up all the time.

Thinks it was too hard on his body..

He has radation every day.

He coughs all day and night.

My question has anyone had the cough so bad?

and if so is there anything you can suggest that might help?

Thanks dorothy...

I'm sorry no one has replied to you Dorothy, but I haven't experienced a couph yet at all.  I don't know if anyone else has, but I hope they'll respond for you.  God bless you dear, I'm still keeping you and your hubby in my prayers.

Helen

By the way, Dorothy, have you called the doctor and asked if there is anything out there to help him with the couph?  Have you told the doc how bad it is on your hubby to sleep?  Seems as if there should be some meds or syrup he could take to help him with the night coughing.  I surely hope there is something they could do to help.  As for the sickness he's getting with the chemo,  I had lots of it, and they had me come in every day for IV meds.  I also had 3 different pills to take, but that didn't put a dent in it, so for 5 days in a row after chemo I had IV's, and it helped me TREMENDOUSLY.  My oncologist always told me there was no reason to be sick, that they could always give me something in the IV's to make it go away, and it did.  I had cisplatin and if you google it, it is one chemo most likely to make you ill.  I know the IV"s worked for me, here's hoping your hubby may find some relief with the couph, and maybe you could ask the oncologist about IV meds and fluids for the nausea.

Thanks for answering me Helen.

Well one dr wants to give him cough syrup and the other one didn't

So I went ahead and got him some so he could sleep.

And  it seems to help.

Ya he was getting sick and throwing up he had to have IV fluids also.

His throat is really getting sore from rad.

He lost another 3 pounds  from last week.

He doesnt want to eat much.

I get sooo depressed and sad.

Dr wants  him to see a stomache dr now.

He said to see if he has infection, but I think it's to see maybe if cancer spread.

I don't know all I do is pray.

God Bless You..

Dorothy

Hello Dorothy,  Finally I found someome who can ralate to what my sister is going through.  Her cough is so bad she has stopped eating and the Dr. has stopped all treatment because of extreme weight loss.  I am her care giver and it is very hard to see her go through such distress!

Oh Dorothy, my heart goes out to you, and to you too lupe!!  I'm glad the cough syrup has helped, and I'm sorry the IV's did not.  It is so sad to see our loved ones in pain, and I hope, Lupe, that your sister is getting some relief since the doctors have stopped treatment.  I'm just not that advanced in my cancer and I don't know what else to say to you both.  My heart really does swell with prayers for you all.  I'm so sorry you are both feeling so helpless,  May God hear our prayers.  Love to you, Helen

My Husband had chemo and radiation at the same time. His throat became so sore he didn't want to eat.  I had the pharmacy make him lidocaine lollipopos and it helped so much.  He would suck on a pop before he ate to get his throat numb and then he could get food down.  He ended up getting a feeding tube in his stomach and he said it was the best thing he ever did and wished he hadn't waited so long.

I had a bad cough last year starting in January and it was not until July we found out I had cancer (squamous nsclc stage IV).  I have a bad cough now but I have periods I do not cough and I am not sure why.  I use cough syrup as it helps some and Halls Breezes cough drops which I buy lots of them when they go on sale for a $1 a pack.

When we attended chemo education - a conversation with one of the nurses who administers chemo - she told my husband to take codeine to relieve his cough.  It certainly helped.
