My mom did two rounds of Cisplatin which made her horribly sick. She was on a very strict schedule of nausea medications to try and keep it under control but then the discovered she was suffering pretty severe hearing loss. Her team decided for her last chemo to do Carboplatin which is supposedly a milder version of the Cisplatin, according to the doctor. It has been 4 days since her treatment and so far the worst side effect is fatigue; she spends the vast majority of the day in bed because she is too tired to do anything whereas before the Carboplatin she would at least move from the bedroom to the living room to watch tv with me and my dad. Judging from how bad her nausea was on Cisplatin, I would say the Carboplatin isn't near as intense; she'll take sleeping over vomiting any day. Stay positive and drink plenty of fluids!

My father is just about to start this chemo combined with another drug beginning with tax.... So it is helpful to read that your mother hasn't had too many side effects from it. Is there any other advice you would give regarding this chemo? Think my father's main worry is losing his hair, did your mum lose hers?

This is a traditional chemo drug. Many of this general side effects apply. I recently wrote about the general side effects of chemo for a reader that I about to start combination chemotherapy. You can check it out here. Hope things are being tolerated well. Sending you all the best. http://chemotherapycheerleader.com/?p=247

I, too, was given Cisplatin to start but the side effects were awful so my oncologist switched me to Carboplatin.  I was extremely tired, could hardly get out of bed some days and lost about 3/4 of my hair.  I have to agree, sleeping is better then vomitting!  I hope you tolerate it well.

I took carboplatin and it made me very tired but I was able to rest after treatment and recover between rounds.  I lived thru it and am now taking Tarceva.  Hope you do well.  A nurse told me drinkng lots of water to stay hydrated really helps flush it thru your system.  Also, getting fluids during and after chemo helps as well.

KMKOntario, I'm in Ontario too. Just checking in to see if you are still with us and if so how you are doing. Crossing my fingers you reply. Julia
