Step Dad had BAC

Hi my name is Lucy and my Step dad has stage 4 lung cancer. He was diagnoised with it in 2009, they put him on Tarceva it was working really well, now on his last cat scan it shows that some of the cells have grown and some are getting smaller. We were wondering if there are other meds that will work out there. I know that Chemo isn't effective.

Thanks in advance,

Lucy

Hi Lucy, I'm sorry about your step-dad.  I think Tarceva is a targeted chemo, meaning it goes for certain cancer cells.  I don't know if he's ever had Alimta, but several, including me, who have been diagnosed with BAC lung cancer have been on that.   I don't know if this helps, but it is an "easy" chemo as my oncologist says.  It makes some tired, but as far as sickness, none for me.  Maybe you can ask his oncologist about that.  I hope he's going to a medical college cancer center.  They have access to clinical trials, and experts in just your type of lung cancer.

Peace be with you, I'm sorry I had not seen this post earlier.  There aren't many of us here with BAC.

Thanks for letting me know about the other med Alimta, he isn't on that one, and do you know if there are any medical college cancer centers is northern CA.

Again thanks.

From what I found with just a fast search on "ASK dot COM" I found that the University of California San Francisco is an excellent place.  I don't know where you are, and am not familiar with California.  I know I traveled an hour each way to be seen by  the cancer center at the Froedtert Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.  I do know that you will find a Medical College near any VA hospital too.

I hope this gets you started, and you are quite welcome.

Byrd
