I am sitting here tonight, or morning as it is now, praying that my dad my dad does not suffer long.  Hospice believes he is in his final hours or days.  Here is our story.

My dad has never been sick.  He has had both hips replaced and one carotid artery in his neck is fully blocked and the other he had surgery to open up.  He never once complained of any pain.  He is a strongest man I know.  Back in June 2014, this year, he started getting pain between his shoulder blades and right elbow pain.  Went to the dr right away.  The dr sends him to his ortho dr because he doesnt know what is going on.  They took blood and xrays.  Blood comes back with low hemoglobin and xrays show a compresion fracture in the top of the spine and severe arthitis in the elbow.  They treat both as such.  He doesnt get better and they keep checking his bloid which drops low which sends him to the hospital on july 18th.  Now, at this point, he is in a lot of pain and cant use either arm because now the left wrist is hurting.  They take him to the hospital where he has tests done and theER dr blurts out you have cancer.  That is how we found  out.

In between the time he went to the ortho dr and the hospital, which was a matter of weeks, a bump deveoped between his shoulder blades, whuch is now a mass, and the elbow pain and wrist pain was not arthritis but masses that have also shown up.  From the man who never complained  is the man who cannot move without yelling out in so much pain.

He was in the hospital from july 18 until july 26.  No surgery no chemo options.  It has spread so fast.  He is on morphine and oxygen to keep him comfortable.  They called me home today to make sure I would be able to say goodbye.

It really is too much too fast.  Our family is devasted.  I am heartbroken.

My dad passed away August 31, 2014.  I had the dates wrong in the first posting.  He went into the hospital on August 19.  That is when we found out he had Stage 4 lung cancer that had spread.  He came home August 26.  We set up hospice care and he passed away Sunday morning.

I can't believe that it was so fast.  From June until the end of August.  My heart is broken and I miss him terribly.

I am so sorry for you loss, I lost my husband May 15th, he had stage 4 lung cancer his 1st diagnosis was sqaumous cell, following year adenocarcinoma, in late December he started having lot of pain he said like when he was first diagnosed he felt the tumors were growing he was right it had spread to his spine and bones and arm.

I do believe once it metatasized to the spine and bone that is the beginning of the end.

You really didn't have a lot of time to even process what was going on. I am sorry for your loss, it sounds like your dad was suffering I am very sorry no one should have to suffer and endure that kind of pain.

When my husbands cancer spread to the spine and bone his quality of life went down hill, I felt like it was a bad dream it just continued to get worse.

Your loss is very fresh I know it is hard you almost feel like you are walking around in a fog, you feel like you are just going through the motions of life, raw emotions.

My heart goes out to you.
