Herceptin therapy for advanced (stage 4 metastatic) oesophageal cancer

Hi Everyone,

My father was recently diagosed with Stage IV oesophagul cancer with metastatis to the lungs, liver and lymph nodes. It's inoperable and he has been started on a course of Herceptin (because his tumour is Her+), oxaloplatin and gimeracil (5 FU). He has been on the treatment for 2 weeks now, so that's 1 full cycle and so far there is no real improvement in symptoms (major swallowing inpairment). The staff at the hospital say they would expect to see something by now if it worked and I think this sounds very fast. I don't want to have false hope but I am afraid they will give up on him too fast. I would love to hear from anyone who has any experience with this type of treatment for oesophagul cancer and how soon after the treatment started did an improvement occur?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Best wishes,
