VIN III and waiting to see GynOnc next week

Hello Ladies,

In 2014 I had a LEEP to remove CIN III after the first abnormal pap of my life. Found out I also had HPV 16. Now 2 weeks prior to my 30th birthday I received the results of a labia majora biopsy which showed VIN III, and I have been referred to a GynOnc at Duke here in North Carolina. The appointment is next week, and I am having a very difficult time with my anxiety.

I am angry with myself for not pressing for a biopsy earlier as I had noticed some brown spots on my vulva 9-12 months ago, but was told by my gyn they were moles and not to worry. Except they were new...??? Finally did my own vinegar test (5% acetic acid) at home last week, the brown lesions were positive for the aceto-white changes, and went in for biospy. VIN III on the the labia biopsy, and I have two more spots around my vagina and then another pretty much on my anus.

I was planning to move out of state in 6 weeks, and now think I will need to postpone those plans. Is surgery now the treatment of choice for this condition? I have read everything I can find but honestly still feel confused about treatment. You ladies who had 'laser surgery' - I know there is ablation possible with lasers and also using lasers to perform excision. Are both of these laser procedures performed under general anesthesia? Should I expect to undergo another procedure in the hospital under anesthesia? I having so many moving parts in my life right now, and I know that next week I will know more, but I am just so worried and trying to plan.

Did any of you have lesions in the perianal region removed? How did you go to the bathroom afterwards? I have already had a few surgeries in my life and the anesthesia gives me terrible constipation. I cannot imagine this along with stiches near my rectum.

I wish that more people knew about this condition, and that more gynecologists were on the lookout for VIN especially in women with previous CIN. These spots have been on my vulva for probably a year, maybe if we biopsied sooner things would be different. Anyway, who knows what might have been.

I'm really scared and upset, and appreciate anyone taking time to discuss these things with me. Thanks.

I just had laser surgery for VIN III on May 4th. I did have perianal area lasered as well. It was done under general anesthesia. Honestly, the pain after surgery was not as terrible as I anticipated. The biopsies were worse. I just saw my gyn/onc on Friday & I have lost some elasticity. It just feels a bit tight there. He has me using cocoa butter to help with the scarring. Never really had problems going to the bathroom after but did use stool softners for a few weeks. The only problem I"m having is trying to have sex again. That really hurts still & I feel bad for my husband. He's been super patient though. My thoughts are with you as I know how difficult all this is.
