Radiation-What to expect-Help!

My dad was diagnosed with melanoma metastasized to the brain, lung and adrenal gland. (stage 4) The brain is the most concerning of the tumors and he just finished 14 treatments of whole brain radiation.  He has been extremely active (golf, softball, bowling) up until his diagnosis a month ago and did fairly well during his first 2 weeks of radiation.  In the past week he is extremely fatigued, weak, falling asleep half way through sentences, unable to stand for any period of time, moving very slow.  Is this a normal response to radiation? Can you share your experiences?  I'm not sure if this is a normal response or if it is a rapid progression of his brain cancer....Thank you in advance for your help.

I did not do whole brain radiation.  My tumor was on the left parietal lobe. I experienced serious fatigue, speech deficits and I permanently had hair loss around the radiated area.  My fatigue symptoms supsided about 3 weeks after I finished my treatments, though my speech issues continued for a weeks after that.

Remember the radiation has a cumulative effect.  Your dad's worst symptoms will be right after he completes the radiation cycle.

My mom experienced the same during radiation. I'd say it was a few weeks after radiation that she got her energy back. Their brain is handling a lot and they need that rest. Slowly she started going for walks. I'm talking even just up and down the driveway....eventually she got more and more energy. I think getting up and exercising really helps. Even if it is a little bit a day. I remember being very scared during this time as well, but stay positive!
