As a survivor of tonsil cancer I can assure you that it is most likely NOT cancer.  As my ENT said during my first visit - ONE swollen tonsil when the other is normal is almost always a sign of cancer.  BOTH swollen tonsils are not indicative of cancer but more likely an infection.  An infection should not be taken likely.  Numerous infections over a three year period may indicate you need a tonsillectomy which should be checked out by an ENT.  I repeat - I would not be at all concerned about it being cancer.
