What percentage of people with this have successful chemotherapy and stomach removal?

"However, survival rates depend on several factors, including the stage of the cancer when it is first diagnosed. The 5-year survival rate of people with cancer located only in the esophagus is 41%. The 5-year survival rate for those with disease that has spread to surrounding tissues or organs and/or the regional lymph nodes is 23%. If it has spread to distant parts of the body, the survival rate is 5%." http://www.cancer.net/cancer-types/esophageal-cancer/statist

It depends on the stage. Is it cancer at the GE junction and that is why they're going to remove the stomach?

It actually is a past question, it was at the junction. He had a Staging laparoscopy and was told it could be removed but he would have some chemotherapy first. They never told us how poor his chances were. The chemtherapy didn't work. They operated, it had spread and they couldn't continue with the op. I'm trying to ascertain if he should have been operated on straight away as the chemotherapy chances were so poor. I'm not trying to sue them I want to fight to improve things. I just believe he should never of had chemo and they should have checked much more carefully before operating.

I believe our oncologist said there is about a 30% chance chemo will shrink tumor, 30% it will stay the same, and 30% the tumor will grow.
