Brain Glioblastoma

by BikramBhowmick - January 22 at 12:41 PM

My Mother named Sikha Bhowmick, 50 years, Female, is suffering fromGLIOBLASTOMA MULTIFORME, being diagnosed on 18/11/2017 by biopsy from NIMHANS, INDIA. She was having excruciating headache associated with vomiting, 1 month back. Her MRI Scan of Brain with MR Spectroscopy report showedHigh Grade Glioma (5x3.6x4.3 cms) on 8/11/2017. Previous to it, she had an episode of syncope with occasional seizures in the month of August. CT scan of Brain at that time showed nothing. However Contrast enhanced CT scan of Brain showed a Space Occupying Lesion, which on MRI of Brain with MR Spectroscopy, diagnosed as Benign Choroid Plexus Papilloma on 06/08/2017 of size 5 x 3 cms. She was on Homeopathic medication to avoid Surgery & its complications. She was completely asymptomatic for 2 months from August to October. But on a certain day she had an excruciating headache with vomiting. It continued & aggravated in next few days. When we realized that she is loosing her memory, we took her to Bangalore in NIMHANS. There, on repeat MRI of Brain with MR Spectroscopy, it revealed high grade Glioma. She underwent operation on the next day (Craniotomy with Surgical Decompression) on 9/11/2017 at Manipal Hospital, Bangalore, India. She is having post operative Right sided Hemiparesis with loss of memory & speech. Doctors made late in starting Radio & Chemo Therapy due to her poor GCS & KPS score. She is finally made to start her Radiotherapy with adjuvant Chemotherapy 6 weeks after Surgery at Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre & Research Institute, Thakurpukur, West Bengal. But after taking half of the Radio & Chemotherapy, she is made to discontinue as she is unable to tolerate those. She contracted numerous episodes of complicated Urinary Tract Infection (developed resistant to almost all antibiotics) & Chest Infections within this period. She developed Mucositis & couldn’t swallow even liquids (on Ryle’s Tube now). She developed big Bed sores. Due to chronic use of steroids, she developed muscle atrophy & her Blood Sugar level jumped up to near 400 mg/dl. Due to chemotherapy, she got extremely fatigued with sudden drop of Blood parameters like WBC & Platelet counts. Her immunity became very low. She is developing pedal oedema with high Urea & Creatinine levels & Diarrhoea is creating trouble a lot. She can’t have access to peripheral venous catheterization also due to destroyed veins (currently on Central Venous Line). It is very pathetic to see an active, restless woman turned into a numb, fatigued, bedridden person within these few days who respond feebly to a strong stimulus. It is very tragic that she can’t understand what we convey & she can’t express her thoughts & cause of pain also. Inspite of knowing the fact that Glioblastoma is one of the worst & most aggressive tumour in Brain with very poor prognosis & negligible survival rate, we will do our best to turn over the stones. I would be grateful if anyone helps me to chalk out a plan & path to do a miracle for my dear mother.

She underwent operation (Craniotomy with Surgical Decompression) on 9/11/2017 at Manipal Hospital, Bangalore, India. She is having post operative Right sided Hemiparesis with loss of memory & speech & suffers from recurrent Urinary Tract Infection (many of the antibiotics got resistant). She is currently undergoing Radio & Chemotherapy. On 6/08/2017, her Brain Tumour got revealed for the first time, by chance, after she was having occassional syncopal attacks & 3 episodes of seizure though plain CT Scan of Brain revealed nothing & Contrast enhanced CT Scan of Brain revealed a Space Occupying Lesion. But the headache & vomiting started 2 months after 1st MRI during which she was on Homeopathic Medication to avoid surgery as the MRI Report revealed a 5 x 3 cm size of a benign lesion named Choroid Plexus Papilloma. I was horribly terrified to believe that radiologically benign tumour could get malignant within this 2 month & that too a stage 4 Brain tumour. She is very much fatigued now & screams all the time mostly due to burning sensation in her urinary tract. Further she got very lean & is not able to take food by mouth also. Tears roll down her eyes for the sudden misfortune in her life. The incidents of members of this group are very much tragic but motivational. Journey of Cancer is very tough & pathetic. Hope is the standpoint we should hold on. I derive inspiration from you guys. We should keep ourselves updated & eagerly await or rather crave for an effective new approaches to treatment. I wish our friends to get well soon. I will be obliged if you kindly help me in this situation to combat this most aggressive, worst prognosis & poor survival laden Brain Tumour. I want my mother to live long & make her a part of miracle.
