It's been quite awhile since I've posted here.  Finished treatment for left tonsil cancer in April, 2017. Typical tratment of 7 weeks chemo and radiation. Very thankful for no recurrence, but dealing with lots of side effects, as many of you are. The lastest happened early this year. Left shoulder was very sore for awhile, so doc had me do an MRI. Left supraspinatus tendon 80% torn and infra spinatus partially...

Kevin You have reached a site where you will get valuable information.  As many have said, this type of cancer is very curable, but depending on the treatment, can have many side effects. My suggestion is, if time permits, check out all of the options as far as treatments.   I had tonsil cancer over 2 years ago. removed several lymph nodes, tonsillectomy, radiation and chemo. 7 weeks of radiation and...

Thanks Richard    I still have a lot of dry mouth and kind of limited on what I can eat, but I can deal with that.  If I can just get rid of the sore in my throat, it will help a lot.  ENT doc is keeping a close eye on it and will biopsy it if it doesn't go away. Thanks for the info! Dave

Thanks again Susan for your input. It is so good to hear stories like yours so that I don’t feel so alone in my recovery. As I think I said in earlier posts, I have never been sick for longer than a week and this really threw me for a loop. People in my SPOHNC group said I need to give it at least a year to start to reach my new normal. It’s still hard for me to wrap my head around the length of time this will take,...

Glad to hear your husband is cancer free! I too lost a lot of weight (45 pounds). After 8 months, I am up only 5 pounds. Seems like a lot of ups and downs and had no clue the progress would be so slow, but am thankful that so far, the cancer is gone.

Thank you so much Susan! I can feel that it takes much longer to heal from things too. I just was at my wits end as far as getting these stupid sores on my mouth. Until this cancer, I have never been sick for an extended period of time. This has really taught me a lesson about what can happen if your body is depleted of all its fighting power. Don’t get me wrong, the treatment killed all the cancer, which is great, ...

Thanks again! The sore on my left side took 2 months to go away too. Hopefully this one will be gone in a few more weeks. I will definitely stay in touch with ENT.

Thanks so much for your reply. I too had a lot of sore during and after treatment. My oncologist was completely stumped, so went to ENT and actually had a staph infection back in July. Took 3 months to get rid of that! That was in my sinuses so don’t know if th sore I had last fall was part of that infection or not. The last one showed up just after Thanksgiving and is still there and horribly sore. Went to an infect...

Lawrence I had swollen lymph nodes on left side of neck about a year ago. ENT did needle biopsy and it was inconclusive. She ended up removing them because they were swollen and had been like this for several months. Only removed 3 lymph nodes on my left side and biopsied right away. They were positive for squamous cell carcinoma HPV +. Also had tonsillectomy and left tonsil was also positive. Did 2 rounds of chem...

This is my first post here, so just a quick recap of my journey. I was diagnosed with tonsil cancer in Feb 2017. Removed tonsils and 3 lymph nodes on left side of my neck. HPV + squamous cell only on left side. 2 chemo treatments and 33 radiation completed April 27. Had a lot of complications along the way, but PET scan in July was clear and CT scan in October was also clear. I had a lot of sores in mouth and throat ...
