I am just wondering how all the people I have had discussions with are going on. As we speak I have managed to keep the return of the cancer at bay. About 6 weeks ago I had a full body scan and a liver scan. My consultant had found some abdormalaties in my blood tests and though he didn't say it at the time would appear that he thought it had spread. The good news is that both scans showed no cancer so yet again c...

Dear Pamihami, how lucky you are over in America to have the facility to follow it right back. I have no idea if it was a government study in the UK my mother only said it was done by a doctor from London, oh how I wish I had asked more questions before she died. I would have no idea who to contact in the UK I have tried various hospital archives but have found no information. If there is anybody reading this f...

Dear Opslady1, I hope you are feeling ok with the chemo. You are very lucky that your childhood treatment has been recognised. Here in the UK nobody seems to want to take responsibility for it and getting any information is like getting blood out of a stone. I have just had the results of a scan my consultant ordered last month and they came back negative this time, he said he was very re-assured which I think is...

Hello, so nice of you to respond to my email. What a legacy we have been left with especially as we have no chance of redress. You have been so lucky to have been spared the cancer that seems to accompany this in later years, I myself am on my second cancer diagnosis in the last 18 months and at the momenT am awaiting the results of yet another scan. I take each day as it comes as my oncologist decided that radioth...

What a dreadful experience for you and also that you remember it so clearly. I was only about a year old when I was given my treatment so remember nothing about it only knowing what I was told in bits and bats by my mother. Mine was not administered in the same way, it was liquid radium painted directly on my face. My cancers have just appeared in the last 2 years I am now 68 firstly in my jaw and 14 months later i...

Hello Diannebass, what kind of treatment did you have. did it work fir you. Have you developed an illness because of it in later life. I unfortunately have no written evidence of the treatment carried out on me as a baby, I only know what my mother told me, I would assume our parents were never told of the long term effects, in my case I just think my mum was so relieved that the treatment worked for me, had it no...

Hello Amanda24. I am so relieved to have the opportunity of speaking to someone else in the UK who may of had similar treatment. You start to wonder if you were on your own in this. Where did you have your treatment, mine was undertaken in York by a doctor who came up from one of the big London hospitals so I was told,, did it work for you. I had liquid radium brushed on my face. I can't offer any additional inform...

                      About Emmys

                      Patient
                      Head and Neck Cancer

I have noticed on your website various comments regarding radium therapy direct to birth marks in the 1940's. I was born in 1946 with a port wine stain covering half of my face in 1947 I had liquid radium applied to my face and then brushed in. I am pleased to say that this worked and have always had a healthy life up to about 18 months ago. I developed cancer in my jaw and had part of my jaw removed. As all of the Cancer was removed, it was not followed up with radiotherapy. However last month they discovered Cancer again this time in my cheek , and I am to have surgery again. I also suffer from sleep apnoe, have had shingles in my eyes and a balance problem. All these have occurred very late in my life I am now 68. I find it very strange thT all of my problems occur from the neck up. I see from the website that people have researched for a book, and I would be very net rested in reading a published book. I do not in anyway blame anyone, because there was not the technology available then. I would just like to hear from others who had this kind of treatment. Both my parents are dead now and can only give you the I formation which was not a lot that she passed onto me in that it was an experimental drug that they put into atomic bombs, I only wish I had asked more question, but then I was not expecting to get cancer.
