We got a shower guard that came with the kit he got at the hospital. My husband passed away last October so he never really got to the point of wet shaving. The shower piece that fit on in place of am HME worked real well even for shaving. Before he could use HME's, he would hold a thin wash cloth over it just to be safe. I also got some stoma bibs that helped him.

Hi, my husband had an electric razor that they helped him with before he left the hospital. He just couldn't shave any of the sensitive/painful areas.

My husband had the same thing. He had a peg tube so the GI dr went through there up to his esophagus stricture where ENT could see the light/teeny opening that they got through. He had to keep a nasal tube in down his throat for a week to keep it open but then they were able to do more dilations. Get a second opinion if your ENT doesn't want to do it.

My husband got a suction machine for that purpose. He also found out that rinsing his mouth with 7-up or selzer water helped break up the mucous in his mouth. He lived on that suction machine for months because of swallowing problems.

How are you doing? You should be finished with your treatment by now. I hope your family has been helpful and supportive

It really sounds like we are going through similar situations. My husband, daily, says he is sick of this s..t. Somehow we will get through this good or bad because we have no choice.

Has anyone had a spread of their scc into the trachea? My husband was told this when he had his laryngectomy 3 weeks ago and now has to see radiation dr. They removed what they called 4 rings of his trachea. Has anyone had a second round of treatments for this? I thought that you couldn't have a second round unless they meant in the exact area. I want to know if he is going to have the same swallowing problems he had...

I did not know that. I just thought my husband had problems because he stopped swallowing. He is now swallowing ice cream after having a laryngectomy. He has become on of the few that radiation and chemo did not work. In fact he now has cancer in hes trachea for which he has to decide whether to do treatment again or let nature take it's course so to speak. We are trying to stay positive but it is difficult with all ...

We are going through somewhat the same thing. My husband has been battling larynx cancer for over 2 years. He has had every treatment possible and yet had to  have a laryngectomy thinking this would take care of it. No such luck. He now has cancer cells in his trachea. He has to undergo more radiation if he agrees to it. He has had pain during all of this and is now giving up. He is 66 years young. Thanks for lis...

Keep swallowing even if it is only a little bit. Your throat will get sore. My husband got his feeding tube 4 weeks into treatment and then stopped swallowing even his spit. He needed to have his esouphagus dilated after treatment because of it. Make sure you stay welll hydrated.

I am a wife of a laryngeal cancer patient. We have been married for 40 years. It breaks my heart to see him go through all of this pain. He has had laser surgery, chemo/radiation, laryngectomy, and now has found out the cancer is in his trachea and there is a spot on his lung. We are trying to get through this and it is the most difficult thing we have ever done but we are doing it together.
