Mark started this regimen, wearing a pump the week of his infusions for the 5fu. He got through three of the proposed six infusions, but, the week of the third infusion got sick enough that he was hospitalized twice, each time for four days (the end of that week) and, starting the next Tuesday, the following week. He did not have any more infusions. He is now 19 months cancer free, counting from the date of his e...

Three weeks ago our son Mark, age 40, had his first CT scan since his en bloc resection. It showed what the radiologist, not checking the patient's gender, characterized as possibly a "cystic lesion arising from the ovary or possibly a cystic external iliac nodal metastasis." It measured 3.75 cm. Mark's oncologist has recommended a follow-up CT in two months and feels it is most likely a residual liquid-filled cyst f...

Mark, after three rounds of the infusion cycle recommendsd by Dr. Seifker-Radtke, became too sick to continue chemotherapy. He was hospitalized twice with critical blood electrolyte imbalanes. He is still receing magnesium infusions weekly. It has been a month now since his last infusion and, almost daily, is struggling with severe vomiting that comes almost without warning and very forceful. He is not nauseated. Has...

I understand. Dr. radtke, although I may be speaking out of turn, seems amenable to communicating with oncologists. She also has written two chapters in textbooks, one the chapter on Bladder Cancers including urachal in a 2018 imprint of Rare Cancers published by John Wiley and a chapter specifically on urachal in the 2016 Genitourinary Cancers. She sent those to Mark’s oncologist. Mark has not had the en bloc res...

Dr. Seifker-Radtke saw our son Mark as a consiltatiom, reviewimg his tests and files and meeting with him and developing a treatmemt plan for him. Mark's insurance covered much of the cost. His oncologist is following that plan. We may, at some point, returnfor a second consult, especially once all the initial treatment is done and we will want a plan for follow-up.  It was expensive but we worked through their...

I am so glad to hear that news! Thank you. Mark is disabled and relies on medicare/medicaid for his healthcare. Medicaid is only good in the state of residence, unless the hospital or doctor has signed an agreement to be a provider for that state. Barnes has signed that agreement, since it sees so many patients from Illinois, and we were very fortunate to find a surgeon there who has experience with the en bloc r...

An update on Mark. His first PET scan came back clear, which is wonderful. He and I travel to Houston on Jan. 3 to M.D. Anderson, and, on January 12, to Washington Univ. School of Medicine/Barnes in St. Louis to meet with a urologist/oncologist who has done the en bloc resection he still needs. This has been an incredible year, beginning on Jan. 29 with my husband, Mark’s dad, having a massive stroke caused by ra...

Our oldest son, who is 39 and mildly retarded, is just beginning this journey. I was upset to find out last Monday that all the surgeon removed and biopsied, because as his nurse said he was so certain it would be benign, was the urachal cyst. He did not not excise behind the naval or remove the surrounding lymph nodes for these to be biopsied to check for local metstasis. I called M.D.Anderson and started a file...
