I agree with others about the lack of comments now. Such a shame. It was very helpful and comforting to communicate with others like myself. I’ll try the other site Susan posted. Good luck to all.. Donna

Hi everyone: I’ve been posting on here for about four years now and wanted to share this with others that are having difficulty speaking after radiation to the neck and tongue areas. I had 4th stage HPV+cancer BOT diagnosed in May of ‘15. After 35 radiation treatments and 6 chemo treatments, I have been cancer free to date. I’ve had s few scares with doctors saying my cancer was back only to say, ooops, sorry we d...

Shirley: so sorry you are having much of what I am experiencing. I only know what I’ve been reading on the internet about the speaking valve. I plan on discussing this with my Rad and onc on my yearly visit next month. I read where you have to get a tracheotomy along with the valve. There are risks with these also. I’m at my wits end not being able to speak much at all without getting totally exhausted. Got my...

I finished my radiation mid September of ‘15. BOT HPV with met to the right lymph node in my neck. It’s been a long painful struggle, but I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Had my feeding tube taken out a couple weeks ago, but can only eat very small bites of real food yet. I’ have pain at the base of my skull, my right shoulder and arm. i have not done much therapy for this. I try stretch...

Sewkenmore: I did not lose my voice until last Christmas just a little over two years post treatment. You are very fortunate, as you said, to have access to excellent dental care. Sorry you are going through this once again. Glad you are here to do it though. I’ve read where people are battling different types of cancer more than once or twice on here. God bless them. People tell me I’m one strong woman after ...

Sewkenmore: I had hyperbaric treatments, 60 to be exact. I had to get plugs in my ears after the first couple “dives” as my ears were being adversely affected. I guess that is common. It was a long process and thankfully the Hospital where I went for them was just 30 minutes from my house. I was in the cylinder for two hours a pop. I really don’t think it helped me much at all. But I’m sure it helped pay for a...

Cagy2; I hear ya about the feeding tube. I had to go one month without using it except to flush it out once a day, and not lose any weight, before my Rad would ok me getting it out. They weigh you in the beginning and then again one month later, and I gained 2#s I had the tube put in 4 Rad treatments shy of my 37 treatments. They put me in the hospital for a week and put it in because I lost over 60# and really w...

Cagy2: Thanks for your response. You’re right about the dentists are pretty much all about getting paid. I’m not going to get any work done unless I’m in pain. I’ve had my feeding tube in for over 2-1/2 years now and had no problems keeping it dry and looking great until just recently. The surgeon did something when he replaced my second tube this past January because soon after it began leaking very badly. ...

Greg: Thank you for your post regarding your teeth. As I said I’m very hesitant to pay that much for crowns and replacement fillings and then lose them anyway. We are not wealthy people. Wishing you luck in saving your teeth. I’ll keep posting as time goes on for me as to how my teeth are doing. I’m going to be 70 soon, so I’m sure that age is a factor also. I wonder why I was told by my dentist I did not need...

Susan: it’s always good to hear your advise and concerns on This thread. I think you remember me from our conversations here. Im stillplanning on going to Alaska this coming August. I am also going to get my feeding tube out next Thursday. I still can’t swallow much but can drink my supplement etc. I’m having difficulty with the tube leaking where it enters my stomach. Surgeon replaced it this last January but ...
