Hold your horses! You can't read those tests at home. They require an enzyme added at the doctor's office. I work at a doctor's office. I've seen several brands and methods of determining if fecal occult blood is present and they ALL require lab work before a result is possible. Take your specimen to your doctor and get your result before you freak out. Also, there are many causes of positive fecal occult blood. Man...

Hi Sowala, I read Hussy's reply to you and she is exactly right, in my opinion. It does not sound as if your mom has much time, I'm sorry to say. When my sister was dx'd with Stage IV PC we begged her to do chemo and and ended up wasting about half the time she had left. Her only symptom prior to the chemo was fatigue. During the chemo she felt like she had horrible flu 24/7. By the time we were all ready to face th...

Misty, I want you to know that there are many people who read this site daily or weekly. They may not write often but , as one of those people, I can tell you that I feel and worry and care for each person and their struggles. My sister died 11 weeks after diagnosis with pancreatic cancer. We are coming up on the one year mark for her diagnosis. Her only complaint was fatigue. When we were going through it I would ...

Hi Punky, I saw your name on this site tonight and went back and read all the messages we sent back and forth. You were a significant helper and support to me when my sister Le was dying last April. I was and am so grateful to you. You shared your experiences with your Mom. Do you remember about the ascites? My sister was so afraid she'd get that and need the draining procedure. You really calmed us down about that....

How are you doing tonight? I imagine you might feel raw and unsettled. You did a wonderful job. Sometimes when I think of the few days just before and just after my sister's death it almost feels like giving birth. You know, you are coaching and keeping them comfortable and then things get worse and then it's over? It's such an emotional upheaval even when you think you are so prepared. I hope you feel some relief...

I had to work until 2pm today and then we went to the pumpkin patch. It was beautiful out and my grandkids were running in and out of the corn stalks playing hide and go seek. I was taking pictures and enjoying the family gathering, but my heart was with you and wondering how the night went as I hadn't had a minute to check. I'm Up to date on the blog now. The breathing was horrible, I remember that. Our hospice n...

Hey, how's it going? On that last night we had Valium, OxyContin, and morphine and whatever else was in that kit hospice gives you at the end. My sister wasn't in pain at all but we wanted to make sure she was comfortable none the less. The breathing really got to us. We listened to it all night and all morning. Her heart was very strong. We had a lot of people in the house and we all kept talking to her and to each...
